Course content
The course covers sociological topics such as ethnic or racial discrimination, gender inequality, crime and so forth. Upon a brief theoretical introduction to the selected topic from sociological aspect, the course evolves around classroom discussions based on selected literary work. While analyzing the literary works, relevant sociological theories are brought into students considerations and they are expected to synthesize the information from two distinctive sources and develop full insight on the subject. Selected readings can be from different literary genres. While one sociological topic might be discussed over a novel, another might be examined around a nonfiction or drama work.
