An overview of the major trends in 20th and 21st century metaethical thought such a: the meaning of ethical terms; Moore s open question; the naturalistic fallacy; the relation between motivation and moral values; the nature of moral obligation. Research into related metaphysical, epistemological and psychological questions such as: Are there moral facts?; Is there are a continuity between moral properties and other natural properties?; What is the justification for our moral commitments?; What is the significance of moral feelings such as guilt?
