Introduction to the concept of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in Mining Engineering; History and development of LCA methodologies and standards; Stages of LCA analysis: goal definition, scoping, inventory assessment, impact analysis, improvement analysis, reporting; Sources of data, boundary selection and uncertainty; Relationship between LCA, mining design for environment and other environmental management tools. Prerequisites: ES 303.
