Course content
Chemical properties of sedimentary rocks and sediments are important for many aspects. Chemostratigraphy is the study of the chemical characteristics of different rock layers. The geochemical changes across chronostratigraphic boundaries can help to understand geological history, paleoclimatic and paleoceanographic conditions, and tectono-sedimentary processes. Global correlations on chronostratigraphic boundaries can present how different proxies can reveal distinct elemental and isotopic events in the geologic past, examines the Proterozoic-Paleozoic, Paleozoic-Mesozoic, and Mesozoic-Paleogene boundaries through major, trace, and REE elemental, stable, isotopes. Global Oceanographic Anoxic Events (OAE) in the geologic history will be examined by chemostratigraphy. The Chemostratigraphy course will also examine the problems on a global scale by microanalysis. Global events took place on stage boundaries will be highlighted by chemostratigraphic applications.
