Law and Digital Technologies: Regulation, Risks and Rights in the Digital Era

Course content

This is an elective post graduate course designed to offer students an overview of the legal landscape formed of a dynamic interplay and complex interrelation between technology and law. The course aims to prepare/position students at the forefront of tech-law preparing them for careers in regulation, compliance, or tech policy and regulation in general and/or policy/sector specific such as education, law, retail, social media etc. It outlines a comprehensive and forward-looking postgraduate elective on the intersection of Law and Technology, addressing the evolving challenges and opportunities in the digital age from a legal and policy perspective. The Course will highlight the dual nature therein coming with innovation on the one side and ethical dilemmas, threats on fundamental rights, regulatory failure and gaps on the other, as digital technologies affect all individuals and institutions dramatically. It also aims to explore the intersection and interrelation of legal aspects of digital technologies. While doing so the course will also provide comparative perspectives from among different jurisdictions and international examples such as the Council of Europe, United Nations, and the EU and two non-EU member countries UK and Turkiye, as well as the leading national actors such as US, China will also be analysed.
